SOLD- Lightolier classic 1965 Lytegem lamp - $70
originally designed in 1965 by michael lax, the lightolier lytegem 8001 became an instant icon. its design was so remarkable that the MOMA inducted it into their permanent collection. the genius of its telescoping arm and swiveling head guarantee you'll have high-intensity, localized light for perfect reading. it takes an automotive 12v/25w bulb and has a high and low switch setting. the white shade measures about 3.5", the heavy cube base 2.5", and the arm extends to roughly 15". Design Within Reach, the arbiter of good taste for all you modernists, has recently reissued this classic lamp. but here's your chance to own a 1960's original- and what's better than an original?! other than a tiny chip on a front corner of the base, it's in fantastic vintage condition. no rewiring necessary.
SOLD- siesta ware frosted white/blue anchor mugs- set of 10- $60
these classic, vintage siesta ware mugs make for good time drinking, and owning a set of 10 means you never have to drink alone. it's not every day you get to toast with your pals while holding wooden-handled, keen 60's era glassware. and with the awesomely nautical blue anchor and stars motif, you'll be stylin just in time for SEAFAIR. sipping your favorite beverage outta these beauties will almost make you forget the ridiculous blue angels roaring overhead. each mug holds about enough liquid for a solid, double vodka tonic. enjoy!
SOLD- 50's darling bisque tiger lamps - $60 pair
who says these smart little tiger lamps only belong in a child's room? i'm pretty sure they'd look great in your sophisticated adult interiors, too. the tigers are in nearly perfect vintage condition, with no chips or marks, and only a small surface crack on the back of one. but, nothing to get in the way of form or function. they both stand about 10" tall, and really look sweet with a warm, ambient edison bulb on top. bulbs not included. (2010 is also the year of the tiger. i'm just sayin'.)

SOLD- rustic vintage wooden cabinet - $300
back in the day, maybe during the 1940's, someone took the time to build this fantastic, rustic wooden cabinet. it's constructed mostly of tongue and groove planks and painted a now-weathered white and green. the spinning wooden latch for the front doors is pretty great, as is the white porcelain knob. at some point in its history, the owner took a pencil to the top front rail and labeled it "Laundry Cupboard." a nice, personal touch. the dimensions are 42"H x 34"W x 22"D, and the shelf boards are also tongue and groove- meaning you can remove planks if you'd like the shelves to be different depths. it's hard to find a cabinet as honest and unrefined as this one, yet still packs this much character and charm. someone will be its next lucky owner.

SOLD- 40's era Rexall porcelain enamel sign- 2 panels- $350
Good health for all from Rexall. own this vintage sign from the king of early american drugstores, Rexall, and guarantee yourself good health for the rest of your life. well, that claim is a little outrageous, but at least you can count on gazing at this gorgeous piece of advertising history for as long as you own it. and that's worth something. i'd say about $280, to be precise. anyway, this old sign is in remarkably tip top shape, with only a few chips around the edges. the front is blazing orange, with the customary blue and white Rexall script broken up into 2 panels- each measuring 34" square. hang them together or separately- either way, they'll be a noteworthy addition to your home, office, garage, barn or wherever they're hung.

SOLD- vintage porcelain enameled EGGS/FEED sign - $295
be the first, and only, person in your neighborhood to own this vintage piece of american advertising, circa 1918. the fox river butter co. hung its sign at 27 S. Market in Boston, a stones throw from historic Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market and shows up in various business registries from that era. a porcelain enameled sign like this is a rare find and i've felt lucky to have it for the last 5 years. it measures 38" x 28" and is a true, original gem.
SOLD- earlyish 20th century industrial shop lights-$100 for pair
these industrial, metal, cone shaped light fixtures were pulled from the shop belonging to a gearhead out in rural Renton. this guy was the real deal- he had vintage auto and motorcycle parts stacked in piles and stored in every drawer and shelf. motor oil covered everything that wasn't already covered in a different type of oil, so it's a good thing these were safely suspended on a wire about 7 feet up in the air. now they're ready to be put to good use in your shop, kitchen, bathroom, bar or restaurant. the reflector's cone shape gives off a nice, wide spectrum of light, and the green paint gives a nod to its authentic vintage, industrial past. currently they are on a pull chain, but could easily be converted to hardwire.

SOLD Kaj Franck for Arabia ceramic cow pitcher - $32
a june trip to elgin, illinois was required to procure this mid-century classic item, designed by the Finish marvel, Kaj Franck. this Finish industrial designer headed up the Arabia company for many years, and his ethos was pretty straightforward- to be designated good and beautiful, an object had to be durable, robust, easy to clean, functional, do justice to the materials used for it, and indispensable. All superfluous decoration was eschewed.
this gorgeous porcelain glazed jug is about 6" tall and 8" wide, and in impeccable vintage condition. the darling stylized green and black cows stare right at you, but not in a creepy way, imploring you to fill up the jug with your favorite ice-cold beverage. the maker's mark (KL-2) is clearly stamped on the base, making it worthy of your mid-century collection. give it a home and it will reward you with years upon years of dedicated service.
SOLD- antique silver & glass table lamps - $40
so, i found myself driving around Marysville this past weekend with larisa- ok, it was planned, but i like to think it was simply by chance that we ended up there- and bumped into these lamps for sale. they had belonged to a woman who spent her life in north dakota married to a man who loved horses. (sorta like me, but totally different) anyway, i picked them up because i loved the silvery art deco style and the crystal clear glass balls. i'm also a fan of the swithes- black is off, red is on. a quirky detail not often seen. get yourself a couple of edison bulbs, plug these darlings in, and you'll have something really sweet going on.
SOLD- owl salt & pepper shakers - $14
sooner or later, you're going to need some salt and pepper, and if you've got these on hand you'll be ready to go. they are in perfect condition and ready to be at your service. and here's some information about owls that i found rather interesting.(courtesy of macrameowl.com)
Unlike most birds, owls are nocturnal with a large head and forward facing large eyes. Their eyes are fixed in their sockets, and some are able to rotate their head up to 270 degrees. With exceptional vision, acute hearing, and the ability to fly silently, they are a stealthy and effective hunter.
Native Americans attributed owls with wisdom and sacred knowledge. The shaman would call upon Owl medicine for insight into the truth of ill-intent. Plains Indians wore owl feathers to protect against evil spirits.
If you are drawn to owls or owl symbolism, you may have this same ability to uncover secrets. People may feel uneasy around you, as if you are able to see through pretence. The owl also teaches us to acknowledge the dark side of our personality, and in that darkness we may find food for growth.

SOLD- great old RC Cola metal thermometer/sign - $46
royal crown cola was invented in 1934 and immediately became a favorite beverage across the USA. this vintage metal sign and working thermometer will surely be your favorite, too. it's a well-worn, well-loved, and well-traveled piece of americana- i found this in rural ohio and brought it back to seattle via american airlines. the mercury works without fail, and at the moment it's telling me it's a blazing 82 degrees in the shade. don't let the burnish on this one fool you- it's a keeper.

SOLD- metal cake tin from yesteryear - $16
a really cool old, green metal cake tin with the word CAKE printed in black chinese takeaway typeface. or whatever it was called back in the day. there's some obvious wear on the top of the lid (or patina, as we like to say in the junking business), but nothing that will prevent this tin from exceptionally storing your cakes and other things for many years to come.
